Before is a collection inspired by my years working in theatre—the people, places and moments just out of sight of the audience.

Before the curtain rises. Before the entrance. Before the applause.

These are people I’ve worked with, places I know and shoes with stories of their own. There’s anticipation, routine, nerves and humour, alongside the quieter moments of waiting.

Perth felt like the right place to bring these paintings together. I worked and performed there for many years, brought up my children there, and it holds a huge part of my life.

The title has two meanings: the moments before a performance, and my own life before I became a painter.
